Ok so after my research over the search engine, i found out that i need to either buy a new alternator or just rebuilt mine. but im posting this to find out more options if any..
my car had a bad alternator, lights would dim if i turn my signals on and so... but i was parked in front of my friends house and wanted to show off the costume 2.5 inch straight pipe system i put in and when i reved my engine the battery light went on and i found out my alt is busted .. what would be the reason of failure ? would the power steering fluid issue cause that? because my power steering dose make a buzzing sound sometimes.. if you guys have any questions that would help me get to my answer please ask me and i apologize for my inability to speak proper english as its not my first language
yes the power steering fluid leaking on the alternator can cause the alternator to fail eventually , also the car being as old as it is , it could just of been its time to go , nothing lasts forever, i replaced mine last year.
thanks for the reply. would cleaning the alt help? if so, how would i clean it? and if i need a replace... would an alt from an sc400 work? a 92 sc400..
Yeah alternator is very common to go out as well as taking the battery along with it. I don't cleaning it will help much best bet is to get a new or re-manufactured one.
100 wat re-manufactured one with life time warranty for 180? worth it?
Definitely, unless you plan to run a crazy sound system nows your chance to upgrade alternators, if not lifetime for 180 sounds great. Got mine for 250 with only 1 year warrenty sadly
Since you have a 300 you might just have a bad Alt and like ***** said, nothing last forever.
Its a common problem on the 400, powersteering leaks and shortly after takes the alternator out and battery with it. After the millions spent on design you would think they put the PS pump away from the ALT, not right above it. Its a pump so regardless how reliable the SC is, it gots to go sometime and be replaced within time.
