Default Thinking about buying an SC300 97+

Well I have been living in Okianwa, Japan for the past 3 years (military dependent) and I will be moving to Georgia in about 4 months. Before I came here I wasn't really into cars or the car scene, but after watching some of the drifters and buying my own Skyline I really enjoy working on cars. Sadly I can't bring my Skyline back to the states so I am trying to find a replacement back in the states. Over here in Okinawa I see a lot of the drifters using Toyota Chasers with 1jz engine so I know its potential. But I know that the Toyota Chaser never was never available back in the states even as a Lexus. So i did a lot of searching and research a have been looking at the IS200 (Altezza) which my friend drives but I don't really like that car. I was also looking at the Lexus GS300 and actually I use to drive one for a while and didn't really like it. And then I came did some more research and come upon the SC300 and I really like the look of the car and I know the engine has some very good potential. So I am trying to get some peoples opinions on the SC300 and see if it is a good car for me back in the states. I just don't want to get a POS car that is gonna keep breaking on me but it does have to meet some qualifications, good sturdy engine and body, can drift it, and a good daily drive as well as not gonna cost me an arm and a leg to modify, as well as a 5 speed.

Danny

I have a 97 sc300 r154 with a bunch of other mods. It's soon to be turbo. I love the car. Getting one that already modified saves a boat load of money.

From what I have seen on CL there are a few at cheap prices in Georgia but not ones that are modded.

If you have the choice you should totally go for any 98+ SC, most people that have pre-97 SC's just don't have the budget for a 98+ SC. I wanted a 98+ SC, but since those are so rare the sellers like to jack up the price to 10k.

Patience is the key to finding these car's. It is hard to locate an already modded SC300 for less than 10k. Good luck with the search! Take your time if you can...

Your budget is a good start range for 98 and up. Patience is key. I found mine at a steal. But had to wait and put some work into it. Nothing I can't fix. I love my car. Its my 4th sc. 300s are cool if u plan to mod but for stock drivetrain the 98 sc400 vvti with 5 speed auto is awesome.

$5000 for a 2000?
If its in good condition (no body damage, leathers good, electronics work, and doesn't overheat), I say buy it.

If you like the 97 style get one don;t settle for a pre 97 or you\ll spend just as much making your pre 97 look like a 97+ but I'd try and find one already modded.. I enjoy building a car but I\m two years in a probably 6-8k and mine isnt even running nevermind road ready..
