today on my way home from work.. it was snowing pretty hard.. i got home from the high way fine.. but when i got into town.. THE CAR SUCKED... i know this is expected with rear wheel drive.. but jesus .. i had 89 civics flying buy me.. and i had my tires spinning. trac was on and off. i really hope i didn't mess up my tranny. i had to end up leaving my car in a lot. and having my parents pick me up..

Could i have damaged something.. (my car is still under warentee. so i wanna make sure)

because i was hearing noises. when it was spinning.. and DOING NOTHING.. Could that have been the trac control.

thanks guys
J

Yeah, that noise is the Trac controll ... that whine noise. I know how it is with these cars in the snow, gotta have a very light foot. At least this car is better than my old '87 volvo gle ... absolute worst car on snow, even with snow tires. The SC is too classy for bags of salt or sand inthe back, IMHO!

Sometimes it helps to turn the trac off if you need to spin a little to keep moving. Thats why Lexus was kind enough to provide us with an off button. Thankfully, I live far from the snow, but if I had to deal with it, I would probably have a POS 89 Civic to drive when the weather sucks. Wouldn't want some fool to slide on the ice into the Lex.

I, thankfully, wasn't out in the snow today, but 2 years here in NYC, we got a whollop of snow in January. I was driving white knuckles and sideways from Westchester to upper east side (about 40 miles). When the trac goes off, you get a very loud and rapid "thup thup thup" sound. It was constant for the whole drive. So hopefully that sound was what you heard.

I hate snow, too. But I think a 5-speed helps.

snow...
Hey dude, I live in chicago and have been stuck many times. I now have two 25lb. bags of salt and a shovel in my trunk.

Just be glad you don't drive a 3-series or a CLK. My buddies have a worse time than me.

Good Luck, Marty

Not made for the snow
Yeah, it's a B**** driving a Sports car in the snow!
They are not made to plow through the stuff.
In the days back when I lived in Duluth, MN. we would store our everday cars in the Garage for the winter and pull out our rusted out piece of S*** 4x's with plows, and not worry about messing up our cars.
I sure don't miss thoughs days! Nothing beats Sunny CaliforNIA!

Snow tires and put some heavy stuff in the trunk. That will help. I almost wrecked my old SC in Atlanta coming off an exit ramp in the snow.

we have snow but it's called shave ice... and i'm not talking about the yellow kind either:eek:

fortunately i don't have to deal with snow tires or heated seats not being warm enough.

for those of you stuck in powder...think warm and look at the below link (btw, there is a time zone difference).

Also, keep a bag of kitty litter in the trunk to help you out in those slippery situations. Works like a charm.

I run Arctic Alpins. They work great for me.
