Pulled over by the police in the SC?

I'd be interested in seeing the text of the law you supposedly violated. Noise laws can be written loosely.
OTOH, cops around here don't really care about loud exhaust (not sure on GA's law on that either) unless you're otherwise driving like an ***. I've never had a particularly loud car though.
The locals did stop my brother in his singled Supra once, claiming they "heard him spin the ties for at least 10 seconds" while maintaining 40 mph in traffic. The idiot heard the spool of the turbo and assumed it was wheel spin and got mad when it was explained. At least he didn't write a ticket.

What pisses me off is that they let people ride around on Harleys (which are wayyyyy louder and more obnoxious than any car I've heard)... yet they give people **** for having loud exhaust on their car. I'd rather listen to Ricer Civics drive by all day long than one Harley (no offense... I just hate how they sound)....

Where are you at in Alabama? I am in Birmingham and there are so many fart can Hondas that they had better never write me a ticket for my exhaust or I might get a little bit upset. Of all the things they could write you up for -a slightly loud exhaust has to be one of most unwarranted.

This is the info that I have found for the state of Alabama. Keep in mind, Alabama does not have any emission state laws as of yet. This was last updated on Feb of this year.
Code of Alabama - Title 32: Motor Vehicles and Traffic - Section 32-5-216 - Mufflers; prevention of noise, smoke, etc
Section 32-5-216 - Mufflers; prevention of noise, smoke, etc.
(a) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass, a muffler without baffles, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.
(b) The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke.
(Acts 1927, No. 347, p. 348; Code 1940, T. 36, §39; Acts 1949, No. 517, p. 754, §9.)

Here is the info from Titan Motorsports on my slip on...
Inspired and designed from endurance and GT racing in Japan, HKS developed its Hi-Power Exhaust system for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated applications. HKS has incorporated this new race inspired offset muffler and piping design into many street applications, which offers a greater flow and higher-PRM power gains due to the less restrictive design. This is achieved by eliminating unnecessary bends for the straightest exhaust path.
For turbocharged applications, the large and smooth exhaust flow allows greater exhaust velocity for better mid-range boost response and high-RPM power. Naturally aspirated vehicles also benefit from greater exhaust flow capacity as engine tuning levels increase. Certain applications are available in a Silent Hi-Power version which has an inner silencer built into the muffler.
Like Drager Exhaust systems, Hi-Power Exhaust systems are made from SUS304 stainless steel muffler and tip assemblies.
Depending on the application, Hi-Power muffler tips are 96mm, 115mm and 120mm in diameter, piping diameter ranges from 55mm to 95mm. Special Edition HKS Carbon Titanium Hi-Power Exhaust systems are exclusively available for certain popular applications. These exclusive versions of the Hi-Power Exhaust consist of a carbon fiber wrapped muffler shell, titanium tip, and polished SUS304 stainless steel piping.
Off road use only - exeeds 95 db!
