Does anyone have a HO Alternator?

On my SC4 (1uz) I'm currently using a TT Auto Supra Alternator which is supposed to be pretty high in amperage, but I don't think it's keeping up with my E-Fan running.

UNLESS someone knows a bigger pulley I can throw on the alternator

 

There's plenty of high amperage alternators out there. You just have to know where to look. For instance: http://www.suprastore.com/higoutal175a.html
The supra store has up to 200 amp alternators. You can also buy a smaller pulley (spins faster so it charges the alternator more quickly) for the stock alternator at driftmotion.

 

Duh, I feel like an idiot, smaller pulley. Didn't realize DM sold a smaller pulley.

Yeah I saw the suprastore, but have heard so-so things about customer support

 

Yeah just have a high torque impact wrench if you get the pulley. That bolt is impossible to get off otherwise.

 

I'm at the drift motion store and i don't see the pulley? anyone direct me please.

 

So just an FYI the pulley can be changed and it will work but you need to know that you will eventually burn up the regulator, due to overdriving the alternator.

Did you upgrade the alternator cables? If you didn't, that would be my guess being the culprit. Too much juice, not enough capacity in the cable to deliver it. I would also consider buying an upgraded cable with an integrated fuse to protect everything. Here is what I am talking about:

i used these guys on my supra for years. works great. i think i had to use a washer or longer bolt to get the belt to line up but they make high output and price is very fair. i think it was like $249 for 180 amp or so.. equivalent to powerhouse street alternator.

 

Great find, but if he is using stock cables, it worthless. The OP states he already has a high output alternator. His accessories are not getting enough juice, hence my question asking what size cables he is running. Buying a new alternator would be a waist of money if it's the cables causing his problem.

 

Sorry for getting back so late. I relocated the battery to the trunk. I'm starting to think it's really more of a ground issue. I know a lot of people just put a ground on the chassis (as I did), I have been doing some reading and the right way (I never though about it lol) is to actually ground the engine block with the battery.

OR grounding a frame rail, then putting a ground strap from the rail to the engine.
