Traction problems in the rain
Well after 6 months of good weather, the Bay Area Ca finally got some rain. The problem is that I found my SC spinning the tires almost every time I start from a stop. I have had to make a conscious effort to really be easy on the gas to prevent from spinning them. Also when I make a left turn it always wants to fish tail even though I'm applying light throttle. However this does not seem to be a problem when I make a right turn. Now I have changed the transmission oil only 2 month ago and my tires have plenty of thread.
Any suggestions
96 sc on 245/40 18's Tokico, Eibach. Oh i have no Trac control

What kind of tires are you using now?
Lex, I think he might have a hard time finding all seasons on the profile and size he is running on.
Try doing research on the net and check for a good summer tire that has good rain ratings.

Currently I'm running Nitto 555.
I seriously doubt that its a tire problem. The tires I have were just replace 10 K ago and plenty of thread left. The car feels like the rear right tires recieves far less torque than the left. I can assure you it not a "lead foot" problem
Because when I make a right turn the problem does not occur.
I think its more like a Diff problem. Have any of you guys experienced this?

I had the same problem too, I just got my 96SC4 and had never drove a RWD car b4, friday night was raining hard in So. Cal, I came from 605 S. to 60 E. when merging onto the 60FWY, I did not push the padel particularly hard, and the car spun on me, scare the hell out of me, after I was done, I was facing the on coming traffic and luckily I did not hit any car or the wall and drove away... I was thinking about the tires too, bc I put little too much pressure on them, 40psi... and there were 70% worn out and my car doesn't have traction control either. Would an alignment help as well? Any suggestions? btw, what do you guys think, I paid 12K for my car with 96KMiles on it...

I have perelli p7000 supersports 245/40/18 and 265/35/18 on my sc3 and I have spun it twice. Once it was my first day driving it in the rain and mergining onto a highway while running out 3rd gear. Second time my foot slipped off the clutch while downshifting. The key is to keep the rpms lower and smooth with the gas. Higher the rpms, faster wheel is turning- more likely to loose grip. At least this has been my experience in the PA dounpours.
I experience the same problem in heavy rain only though. The right rear tire on the SCs spins like crazy when we lose traction since we have a stock crappy open diff (not for long for me). This also makes for some large single tire burnouts when making right turns and gunning it.
Try driving the SC on pure ice. That is when you realize the weight of the car as you get the wrecking ball feeling as you plow down the road. You have to drive in a controlled skid the entire time. It's reminds me also of driving 100+MPH on bald tires in the rain. Almost like boating.
Back on topic though, easy on the pedal. If you get a torque converter upgrade you will need to be even more careful.

One thing that I learned the hard way is the reason I'm driving the SC300: when a road surface is dry for a long period of time and then exposed to rain, it's especially slick at intersections and other areas that cars can drop oil. I had a Nissan 240SX 5 speed that I loved, and I was cruising back home on I-20 and hit a slick spot while changing lanes. Mr. Nissan ate a guardrail like a champ and never quit running. For anyone who's looking for a second car, I recommend the 240SX. It's RWD and some have an LSD.
nitto 555s arent a great rain tire. the idea behind good tires in the rain is a means to get the water away from the center of the tire adn the treads on the nt555 arent very deep. theyre more of a fair weather tire.

I'm currently running Bridgestone S03's, and you can't even tell when the roads are wet
My wet traction now is FAR better then the Michelins on a dry road! BTW - I'm running 285/30/18's on the back, with 245/40/18's up front. GREAT balance in the twisties (even in the wet)
