Default engine swap or just get a manual 300?

So my lexus runs well. doesn't give me problems starts right up every time. But i got 260k on the engine and it has some lifter tapping noise. The body of the car needs work like some dents to be pulled and maybe some better door panels. I've been thinking whether or not i should just get a better engine and fix up the body and interior slowly or just save my money and buy one in already good condition OR should i just go for the 300 manual? i have a 1992 v8 but i've been told that the manual 300 would be a good buy and one last question, can i trust the places that sell "engines from japan"? sorry for so many questions and sorry for not posting in the right forums

The swap is expensive unless you do no maintenance and dont run into any part problems. Unforseen circumstances. The 1992 400 is what I have and was a great car. The tapping is sometimes normal, but sometimes the lifters and shims need some work. I would premium gas and seafoam it, with a new tune up to see if that corrects the problem. If your heart set on the swap, follow my build thread. GL on your choice.

A friend of mine got a 1JZ from one of those JDM companies about a year ago and it came in just fine. The only thing about these Japanese engines is that you will need to extend and/or modify the wiring harness for it to work in your SC. You should replace all of the stuff like the timing belt, water pump, and main seals as well just to be safe.

My friend that did his 1JZ swap dropped his engine in without any trouble outside of dealing with the wiring harness. He didn't change any belts or seals and it ran fine, but it's not something I would recommend doing.

if you dnt trust the online swap places find a local jdm engine importer... remember that any other sc you get is going to be a used car and will have problems whether they are big or small one advantage you have in keeping your ride is you know what problems your particular car has gud luck

i vote save money for in case situations and decide when you have trouble... as for this... its so unreasonably common that i wouldnt even bother considering it detrimental. i thought i was hearing valve tick until i performed a few searches.

I'd get the shop manuals and appropriate tools and do the valve adjustment operation yourself. A manual 300 is definitely worth it but as you already have your SC400 sorted I'd say just convert it to a W58 or R154 manual transmission. A W58 will be sufficient for the V8 but an R154 could future-proof you for a GTE engine swap. Depends on what you ultimately want. At the point of a manual swap you could also consider slightly more aggressive gearing by swapping in a 4.083 pumpkin.

Usually 260k on a maintained 1UZ-FE is still nowhere near the end of its useable lifespan.
