Regarding the tail light failure sensor...and another thing (later)

Ok, here is the deal...I have a '92 SC400 and I installed the '97+lights...I have the '97+ tail light failure module (TLFM) and it still lights up. I only have ONE. I believe the harness from the passenger side tail light connects to the driver's side tail light and then that goes through the single TLFM. I have never seen or heard anything to the contrary.

So here's what I think it MIGHT be (for me anyways). I have the factory '92 spoiler with the LED's. I'm thinking that MAYBE the resistance on the newer '97+ LED's is different.

I know for a fact that there are TWO different modules for pre- and post-97's. One with and one w/o the spoiler LED's.

Does anyone here have a SC300 or a non-spoilered SC400 that has done the '97+ swap along with the correct TLFM and had it successfuly work?

The OTHER thing I wanted to mention was the Turn Signal Flasher Module...(TSFM). If you have a '92 and you put in the '97+, you're turn signal will flash at double the speed because the TSFM isn't getting the right resistance. This is a ~$40 fix. You just need to get the '97+ TSFM module from the dealer.

Now I'm not sure if the '93~'96's do this but I know for a fact that the '92's do this.

In case you're wonder, the TSFM is located behind the dead pedal area...if you get under there and look to the left (towards the driver's door) then you'll see a bunch of relays and whatnot. It's the upper right (meaning closer to the nose of the car) grey colored box...there is a single clip that holds it in place...just push the clip away and then pull out. It's sort of a PITA to do...here's a picture of what mine looked like.

I just completed a '95 to '97+ conversion and will post pics soon. My car is the renaissance red w/black interior and the results are AWESOME. The only way you can tell my car is not a 97+ is because I kept the lower profile spoiler which I personally prefer.

Anyway, yes the 97+ headlights have a different part number but they are exactly the same shape as I did not have to order new headlights... but I later did anyway because the old ones looked a bit scruffy once all the updates were completed. I had cleaned them inside and out but the new headlights are 100 times brighter, especially with the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs.

One other thing though, I think it might be a good idea to get the foam absorber for the rear bumper. The new bumper seems to allow the foam piece to move around because I think the cover sticks out further. Maybe this is normal?

Hope this helps...

You don't need all those parts for the front, I wrote an article on this, it should be posted very shortly, and it tells you what part numbers you need and what you don't.

NEWS FLASH...hehehe...I looked of Steve Ganz's car today and you DO NOT need the factory side skirts!

So I guess all you need is:

1) Front Grille
2) Fog Lights
3) Door Molding (kinda optional but it looks like *** w/o it)
4) Tail Lights (optional)
5) Flasher Module (optional with Tail lights)

There some other parts like bumper foam and clips and stuff but I'm sure LexLuthor will cover that in his upgrade FAQ...
