Finally Some Progress (pic heavy)
Thanks guys. I do feel lucky to get to use all this equipment as well as having an instructor to teach me how to do things and make sure I don't screw them up. Only down side to this is that I only get ~6 hours a week on Mondays and Wednesdays to work on it. I'm really enjoying it though and think I may rebuild another in the future after this one is all said and done.
I should be getting my new BC springs and retainers in the mail here, so Wednesday I'll be able to wash the block and get it painted. ( little bit of a confession; a couple posts up with the pictures of the black block are a quick photoshop test of block color, it's not actually painted yet ) After the block is painted and drying, I'll get to the head where I have to get the old valve guides out and the new one's in. Next week is spring break for me so no more progress for a while after whatever I can get done Wednesday.

Wondering if i should paint the tray? I could paint it black to match or leave it how it is.

Sorry it's been a while, I had spring break and then had to wait on parts. Lastly, I've been a little lazy.
Here's what's happened.
I ground my valves.
And then When I was putting my new valve guides in, I drove one in backwards. I had to take it to a shop to get it fixed. That's where the head is now. I threw in my arp head studs just to have something to do for 5 mins.
Then my bearings finally came in and I could start assembly. I also got a water pump, oil pump, TT head gasket, ebay multi gasket kit, new exhaust studs, and a couple other odds and ends.
I put the top pan on, with silicone, but I realized i didn't have the o-rings I needed for the oil pump, so It's coming back off tomorrow.
Hoping to finish in a couple weeks

nicely done so far! Remember, don't get too far ahead of yourself otherwise you'll make mistakes like that. Check and double check before moving from step to step on assembly. Engine isn't going to run anywhere anytime soon, so be patient! i learned that the hard way when i did my swap
