Cheap Climate control LCD fix, Steps/Pictures!!!!
Hey guys i got my new lcd screen for my climate control today and decided to take some step by step pictures. I got it from ebay for 47 bucks and is much better than sending it in for a rebuild for over 150 bucks. It toke about a good 45min- an hour to complete everything. Gotta have soldering skills like me =)
Heres the new screw before it went it
There is total of 6 small philips screws on the outside to get the climate control opened
then you will need to unplug two connectors
heres the old screen before i de-soldered it
de-soldered it from the other side
thats where the old screen used to sit
my old one was quite burned up
Now all i had to do was repeat the process and solder in my new lcd
and here it is, works great

Nice work, thanks for sharing.
I remembered my climate control was fixed for $75.00, parts and labor included. Didn't trust my own de-/soldering skills...

$150? Wow somebody is getting reamed. $40 labor tops somewhere, if you pay more than that you get hosed and trust me for $40 you don't wanna desolder those pins yourself without a lot of experience because there are a bunch and they will cold solder and certain areas of the LCD won't work correctly (so be careful if you do try this).
The DIY for this is in the ice blue thread from 2003 and one from last year I did as well, but you did a nice job on your lcd. I love the fact these screens are only $45 since the problem is so common.
Here's a better look inside from last year https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...lcd-today.html
and from 2003 https://www.clublexus.com/forums/693010-post357.html
The thing I was saying about the cold solder joints was if you look how the holes are not filled completely in here:
Versus here:
Those connections that are not completely done will cause the LCD to wig out from cold solder connections and you'll be back in it doing it all again, so just be careful when you do it because it's a real PITA to have to re-do it all over again and that's why I say it's almost not worth it to DIY when the fix is only $40. Still not to discourage, if you have the ability and can do a really nice solder there's no reason not to.

Yup thanks guys for the feedback, and the soldering was quite simple since there is a good amount of space between each contact. heres the link for the lcd screen where i bought mine http://www.ebay.com/itm/300654733298...#ht_2353wt_952
but this isnt the only place you can buy them i came across multiple other sites before i bought mine

That guy says the sellers name is gtshokoor that sells the better (thicker) LCD screens that look a lot more heavy duty and seem to light up cleaner. I'd recommend those LCD's since I've worked with them all. By contrast the other ones are thin and light up a weird off color.
