So i have a quick question to all the people with aftermarket wheels on their SC's. I was at a lexus dealership today and one of the mechanics told me that if i get rims that are larger than the factory size. i risk destroying my suspension as well as loosing handling.

Now im not really sure if this is true or not. i assumed that the handling would CHANGE but not nessarely for worse. If anyone can help me out with this small issue i would really appreciate it. the biggest issue is the suspension since thats something that can cost me alot of money if it breaks.

Also worth mentioning that i plan to get a staggered set of wheels on my car. 18" 9.5 in the back and 8.5 in the front. not sure about the offset just yet but it will likely be around +35 or +40.

Also in case it matters. I own a 95 SC 300.

lol....^^^....yea man ....it will ride depending on the drop your planning to do. and the quality of the set up...i have ksport suspension and im slammed. and its stiff as a mother. i get my dips and scrape..but who effin in cares...your going to look nice ....dnt mean to offend..your handling wont change much...but about 2 months ago i just replaced my wheel bearings, lower ball joints, ...cheap parts no biggie......its worth it in the long run.....slam that bab boy

 

^he is talking about staying stock height with different wheels.

what you gotta understand is the tire changes size also with the rim size so essentially buying; say a 18 inch rim but going with a smaller tire you are not changing much about the diameter, maybe width.

you will be fine, buy the wheels! dealerships says these things for cars that are under warranty etc etc....

 

tell him he is a moron and look in the top rim and tire thread its pretty hard to miss..

 

I doubt the wheels would ruin your suspension. If you put some super heavy wheels on your SC, then you might do some damage. You should be fine though.

 

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Definitely going for the rims! Now i just gotta figure out which once. I was considering the XXR 502s because i really like the design and its affordable price. Can anyone tell me if the quality of those rims is any good. Ive heard mixed things about XXR. I know the best rims would be Rays or SSR and similar but those just cost too much.

xxrs are garbage... but .. if its what youre budget allows, and youre not doing competitive driving youll be fine. the extra rotational mass wont be significant for your application or will you risk breaking them into pieces. **** im a wheel junking and im picking up some

I dont really do any kind of racing but i do like to drive aggressively (i have really bad gas mileage). guess its back to research. If anyone knows a good pair of rims for a reasonable price do let me know though.


lol, well i figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.....and im broke so i dont have money to spend on suspension. This was my first time taking it to a dealer. Probably wont be doing it again. I would do it myself but they picked a really bad spot on the 2jz to put the oil filter. so i figured id rather pay the 50 bucs once every 3-4 months.

 

xxr will suit your needs just fine

 

id prefer to get something that will last. If XXR quality is garbage, then id rather spend a bit more money and get something thats good, with that being said, i cant exactly spend 3500 on a set of rims when i spend 4500 for the car.

 

theyre made of some sort of aluminum alloy not glass. just if you hit a curb at 40 dont expect just a bend. but then again the cost of repairing a bend is more expensive than the cost of a new xxr wheel. youll be fine
