Default W58 rebuild

Hello all. At first I was interested in just replacing my trans with a mkiii w58 but after researching I found out that there is too much work involved. So now I am looking into a rebuild kit or cost to have it rebuilt. Can anyone chime in on this?

depending on which year u have the rebuil kit can be like 350 to 500. as long as no gears are bad, if u have the earlier version, u should be able to use an mk3 one by replacing the bellhousing and shifterr extension with the one out of urs

Luckily I have a 92. It sounds like I'm better off rebuilding it. I'd hate to buy a mk3 w58, swap everything over then find out the gears are junk.

The rebuild parts are not worth it for most people. Carsmypnis is right, the rebuild kit for any year SC W58 will be about $360 due to the multi-piece 2nd and 3rd gear syncros.

The only problem I have with the r154 is I have to still buy extra parts to swap it in. I'm trying to avoid that. I would just like to build my trans or find a low milage one because im no racer. My car is being built for cruising purposes.

Look on e-bay for low mile JDM w58's or r154's as they both usually are on there at all times.

Found a few r154's but I need a bunch of parts to perform the swap. Because of that I'd rather stay with the w58.

I can understand that. If you are not looking to increase power and just want a good working daily driver trans, it may be worth the expense for you.
