Rear main seal
In preparation for my turbo build within the next year or so, I'm replacing all the seals on my 2jzge. I'm going to use the GE block for my build..but the car is also my only car, and I want to get the rear main seal out of the way. How difficult is it? I'll have access to a lift as well as air tools ect. Any advice? Also will be replacing the timing belt, water pump, lower control arms, rack bushings, and the valve cover gaskets.
It's not hard per say. It's just time consuming because of the transmission removal. With a lift, you're more well off than many who use jack stands. If you're competent enough to take all the other jobs, then I have confident you'll be able to replace the RMS
remove tranny, take off pressure plate/clutch disk, take off flywheel, and, or if you're an auto, you can skip those steps and just pry the rms out w/ a small flathead.
unbolt the 4 14mm bolts that hold the front driveshaft onto the rear driveshaft and try to get them separated. You may have to unbolt the front diff mounts to do so. And for some of the bolts at the top of the bellhousing, i would unbolt the tranny mount to til the motor/tranny back just a bit to make access to those bolts easier.

Are you taking the engine out of the car? I did the rear main seal on my GTE while it was still on the engine lift and it was a piece of cake. Much easier than when I had to do it on my GE years ago with the engine still on the car. Make sure you get a good degreaser or brake cleaner to prep the area before putting back the new seal, because it will sure be real nasty in there.
If your auto, you can look at my 5spd convertion thread it'll show you how to remove the transmission.
But basically what they said, Remove exhaust, driveshaft, mounts and remove the transmission and just poke the RMS with a screwdriver so it somewhat sticks out and yank it out. Be careful when you install it make sure the whole seal sits perfectly if it doesnt you might need to get a new one
