Hey all, new to this site. I have a Soarer I'm building up for the spring...
I've been pondering the standalone hydraulic e-brake setup for a while... Has anyone thought about converting the rear drum cable actuation to a hydraulic wheel cylinder instead?
That is, remove the parking brake cables, remove the arms in the stock set-up that actuate the shoes and mounting a wheel cylinder with hydraulic hardware in? The question is finding a wheel cylinder that will fit between the shoes (maybe out of a yaris or something?)
In theory, drums are supposed to lock up better than discs because of the twisting actuation. So why don't we maximize the setup our cars already come with?
I'm still wondering if I should attempt this route, or say f#k it and go with an inline
That sounds very interesting it sounds like the next step is to get a spare drum, gut it out, and then start testing different setups in there.
Definitely having a spare rear set-up to experiment would be great... Wheel cylinders are only $10-$20 per side, if it could be mounted between the top of the shoes on the backing plate (and not interfere with anything else), it might just be a matter of modifying the existing shoe ends to accommodate the cylinders.
Sounds easy when imagining it, but I'm going to rip mine apart in the next couple weeks and see if this can actually happen.
YES YES YES. REJOICE NGAAAAAS. Battle Version has come through and has released a set of bolt on brackets for a dual caliper setup for sc's at an affordable price!
I'm interested to see what the brackets look like.
Anyone planning on picking a set of these up?
i would only pick it up if they made it to accommodate TT rotors, this is out of the question for me, i guess i just need to fix my handbrake and get a drift button
what's the rule on setting up group buys? I think I could get us a discount on the BV stuff. I wanted to get the rack bushing and I want this new kit because I am convinced in-line isn't the way to go.

i'm gonna cop out and do the in-line single caliper. The dual caliper is gonna get rid of the stock ebrake which isn't life and death... but getting a second set of calipers, running new lines, and having to flush out the entire system and buy a new set of pads will almost triple the price of an inline which I think is overkill for my skill level. Still curious to see if anyone is going to run this though!
So I purchased and installed the BattleVersion dual caliper set up... Instead of going with my original idea of modifying the drum to a hydraulic wheel cylinder...
It's all together and I'll post detailed pics of it all in a few days.
Was a bit more work than I expected. If planning to install this, say goodbye to your ABS sensors (abs is for pussies anyway), your stock e-brake drum set-up, and expect to do some grinding to the top of the original knuckles. Also I found the bolts that were supplied were a bit long, so I added thick lock washers.
Everything is all put together in the rear end, I'll post pics when it's 100% done, just waiting on my reservoir for the master cylinder.
Can't wait to put this to use
oh excited to see how it worked out for you! I'm about to get an inline Parts Shop Max hydro but I think that's good enough for me / my level at the moment. Please post pics and videos!
