i have done some research but im still not 100% on how to do it i plan on doing it tomorrow so some help would be nice, but anyway have a 92 5 speed sc300 i have heard of people cutting some inches off the shifter and welding, can anyone explain with detail or pictures thanks.
I can't comment on cutting the shifter as I've never physically tried it myself but I also wouldn't recommend it. It's nearly the same thing as putting those bolt-ONTO "short shift" kits into a cable-driven Honda transmission-- it doesn't achieve what a real short shifter does (such as a C's, TRD or a B&M or Hurst for domestic V8 cars), which is change the fulcrum point in addition to the upper shifter angle and length.
In our cars, unfortunately due to the design of the 92-94 W58 extender housings it's harder to design a true improved movement. For 95-97 W58 cars (or a 95-98 Supra NA 5-speed) the design of the works within the extension housing is different and it was much easier for the aftermarket to design real bolt-in shifters with a truly changed fulcrum point.
The best solution is to buy the parts to swap over the improved 1995+ extension housing and internal works, plus a C's replica, TRD or similar.
Welding the shifter has been done to make a W58 with the MK3 shifter housing work when swapped to SC's. It works for that but it doesn't actually change the throws of each shift.
I have an original 5-speed too. The shift throws aren't bad at all. They could be much better but they aren't bad. I wish they were shorter too but the trouble it's worth to do what I described above when you already have a car with a proper W58 isn't worth it unless you're already getting in there to change a clutch.
Don't do it. When you cut your shifter all you do is reduce leverage and make your shifts harder and slower than they were before. I had a cut shifter for my r154 and it was terrible. I ended up dropping the $$ on a c's shifter. I would say don't cut it unless you have a backup to replace it with.
at the end of the day its your car so you should do it.. Plenty of Supramania members who have done it and swear by it. We had a member recently selling a modified shifter and sold it recently. Believe his name is 94_Soarer. Give him a shout and see what he says.

get eerr done make sure you dont weld it crooked and get a clean cut
great advice yall, thanks. lol dont know if i would wanna do it now. but if i would want to do it do it i cut before the curve on the shifter (like cut above the curve??)
Doesn't apply to the SC but in my supra(r154) I prefer the shifter being higher up. I feel like I can reach it and get my hand from the shifter to the wheel faster. I am really not a left handed driver so I like my right hand not resting on the shifter but on the wheel as much as possible.
so, no one makes a short shifter or short throw for a pre 95 w58??
Got pics but i cant show you ,i'm doing custom interior and there are too many haters here. I have to wait untill i finnish this project first. But my center console is not stock its a lot lower ,maybe thats why it doesnt bother me. But everything aside, the shifting is 100 times better.
I personally like the height of the stock W58 shifter in my SC. It's the throws that I wish were shorter.
peelsSC300-- no, unfortunately no one makes a true short shifter for 92-94 W58 SC300's. Now, if you have a swapped 5-speed car and happened to use a 95+ W58 then that is another story.
