I have a 97 platinum silver sc300. Black interior, 5 speed, clean title. Apparently 1 of 120 5 speed sc300 produced in 1997. I'm in Oakland as well, so if you're willing to make a trip up to Norcal, might be able to make a deal with you.

^^ very, very rare SC.
If and when he jumps on one, I hope he'll take it easy with it at first since he's seventeen. These cars aren't dangerous until you turbocharge them (or swap a 5-speed into an SC400) but they can get you into trouble even without boost under the right circumstances. I say this as a guy who had a V8 classic Mustang as his first car at sixteen.
I'd strongly suggest that he does the Supra TT or 95+ LS400 front brake caliper upgrade if/when he gets his car. That and wheels were my first changes to my car as a safety measure.

He's smart to want to gradually do his own upgrades. Giving the car better all around control before adding power really makes it apparent what the chassis is capable of. Adding power after that just opens up another whole level of performance and enjoyment.

Certainly. The difference in braking power under nearly all conditions is night and day from stock. It's all bolt-on and gives you OEM four-piston mono blocks with high fade resistance in the TT version.
