I have a sc 400 with 221k, never changed water pump or timing belt before. Last week the car temp was getting higher and higher during rush hours. Lucky for me traffic clear and as soon as I pick up speed temp went down.
So I decided to take out the thermostat and had the radiator clean by some radiator place that took it apart and slim jim each slot.
According to the radiator guy he said my water pump is working fine because he can see the water flow is strong through the bolt behind the thermostat and he can feel it through the upper radiator hose. Plus he said if water pump the car will get hot right away.
So now the car has NO thermostat and unclog rad and temp still goes up during rush hours. But not as fast as before, but still rising temp.
when my car get hot (say above the middle near the top) the fan spin the same speed as if I was at idle.
So my question is how do you determine if it is a rad fan problem or it the sensor at the bottom of the rad?
if i'm correct the 1uz fans are hydro driven by the p/s pump. The fan will not spin faster if the car gets hotter. It will spin faster under load or when you rev the engine.
