How close to being flush with the fenders would 8.5 inch with a 38mm offset front and 9.5 inch with the same 38mm offset rear be on a 1997 SC400? They are 19's. According to my calculations the rears would stick out 13mm more than the fronts, but the wheel seller says no. Thanks.
Front is going to be very sunk, im running a 9 inch +13 offset in the front and its pretty far from being flush, I could probably get away with a half inch spacer, thats with rolled fenders.
9.5 with +38 would be pretty sunk too.
You could be better off getting some wheels with good offsets, if you absolutely have to have these wheels though buy them and put them on the car and figure out what size spacers you need and buy some.
it depends if you are low or not the lower you go the more the wheels will go in etc etc...
if you are at stock height and put those wheels on they will be flush. as soon as you start to lower it those badboys will be sunken in. the ideal offset is about +15mm on a 9.5 inch wheel (mb battles)

x2 i had a 19x9 26 offset wheel in the front i was sunk, threw a 1 inch spacer on there i was poking a lil
Your going to need 25mm spacers all around to be slightly flush. It's still going to be sunk by around 5mm in the front. The rears will poke out about 5mm or so.
+15 on a 9.5 is perfect in most people's opinion. Remember, every inch in width is 13mm of offset. 9.5" et15 = 10.5" et28. Back spacing differs obviously, this only applys the the front plane of the wheel.
Honestly, when going for the fitment look, I never understood the point of a wide wheel because a setup like that is going to require a stretched tire that is going to have a much skinnier width anyway. It was always about offset for me.
