Power steering question per the pressure side
Have been doing a bit of searching, but seem to come up a bit blank. On the pressure hose, and I hope this isnt too silly of a question, is the OEM cooler an absolute necessity?
If so, does anyone by chance know if there are any aftermarket coolers for the high pressure side? All I can seem to find are for the low pressure/return side, and I have searched everything from Jegs, Summit, DM, ebay, etc..
With the plan I have for the pressure hose on my build, from the LS1 pump to the SC rack, the hose I have in mind doesnt exactly include plans for a cooler, its just a straight shot from pump to rack and although the car wont exactly be daily driven, its going to get its fair share of driving...and I dont want to even think about no PS in this heavy car with the manual trans.

i dont think its absolutely necessary. i removed a PS cooler on a custoomer's SRT4. the cooler hard line rubbed against the exhaust and cause it to leak PS Fluid. he didnt want to get another cooler, so i told him i can remove/bypass it and drive it for a couple of days to see how it will work out. he never came back.
why not run the cooler on the return hose?

Hmm...I dont really see it being a problem, but want to be sure before I burn up the pump from just saying screw it.
SC's have a cooler on both the high pressure side and the return, Im leaving the return side, just concerned about the pressure side since the entire line is being replaced with a new -6an line..but its straight to the rack, unlike the OE has a short cooler on it.
EDIT: Or is that not a cooler on the pressure side, and Im being a moron?

I dont have a trans cooler....its the power steering for sure, pressure side, goes from pump, hose to metal section, back to hose to rack..metal section might be 8-10'' long, curved with a single 90* bend. Low pressure cooler in behind the front bumper on drivers side, zig-zags every which way, and is already hooked up to the LS1 pump..
question is, do I need a cooler (cause thats what it looks like on the OEM hose) between the LS1 power steering pump and rack on the pressure hose..better yet, here:

ohhh gotcha. i thought you were talking about a cooler with the fins. i dont think that cooler cools much. if your worried get a bigger cooler for the return section. a cooler that looks like a mini radiator. i dont know what it is called haha
