So my car was running on fumes and I was able to get it to a gas station and fill it up. I went to start it up to go home and the thing would absolutely not fire! No idea what is wrong! it turns over like mad but doesnt even sound close to firing. It is all stock minus it being a SC400 5 speed swap. No internal work, boost, or aftermarket ECU, just a 1UZ with a 5 speed manual. Please I need some advice so i can get her back home!
Do you hear the pump when the key is in the "on" position?
You may have killed the pump since there wasn't enough fuel in tank to keep the pump cool, especially in the summer heat.
That is a possibility. I only drove it a 1/4 mile or less to the station, it's first time being started today, so its right near me. Unfortunately I had to go back into work so now im stuck there and trying to collect some advice and then hopefully tackle it tonight.
I'm betting its the ECU cause it did this exact same thing 5 years ago. Same situation where it was running fine. Then just would not fire at all. Turns over but thats it. Same problem. ECU was replaced with a reman. and Ive had no problems, but this literally came out of no where.
Also just as a small note, almost everything minus the plugs themselves in the ignition system were replaced a little over a year ago. Plugs were done 60 k ago. Did just seafoam it and maybe the plugs got fouled??? Dont know...
Talked to my friend who works at Lexus. Im going to try to bypass the ecu for the fuel pump and see if i can get it to start by using the diagnostic port. Problem is that im still in work so i ll have to wait till later to try it. My guess is that it is the ECU since this exact same thing happened to my 5 years ago. If so screw the OEM ECU and im just going to go mega squirt I think!
Ok so long story short got the battery tested. It had a bad cell so I replaced that. Next step is to check the alternator. Im pretty certain thats the problem but will find out for sure soon.
My vote was going to be alt as well. Start the car the pull the nehative cable off the post...if the car dies then your alternator took a dump. If it stays running that means it is running off the alt like it should.
