Default Changed fuel filter today, DANGER

I did this on my 95 SC4 back when I had it and it was brutal. After reading this guys post about crimping the fuel line with rubber covered vise grips, I thought it be different. There is no rubber line on my 93 SC400, only plastic coating on steel fuel line. I nearly got a 2nd degree chemical burn from 5 min. of gas poring down the side of my body. The fittings on the lines were slow going but not as bad as my 95. If you choose to DIY the fuel filter, run it low on gas and then loosen the in fitting and drain the rest of the fuel in a container, then replace the filter. Add fuel back in. I remember there was a thread with the pic. of a guy on the forum with the first layer of skin on his arm gone.

I just got a chance to read the guys post about crimping the line again. I was looking by the filter and not above the diff. I glanced up there and couldnt see the line. I jacked the car up took the tire off. Guess that would work better if it was up on a lift.

Why would you lay there for that long with gas pouring all over you...? Skin damage and fire hazards would be enough to make me think "Hey, this is a bad idea. Get a fuel container and allow to drain.".

I thought I could handle the gas, and since its my 2nd go round, I thought I had it. If it werent for a garden hose and the shower nearby, Id have been hurting.

According to the Supra service manual(i know not an SC, but similar) disconnect the big clip on the backside of the gas tank while the car is idling and allow the car to die by itself.

You should have very little fuel and or pressure after doing this.

My SC died very quick soon as I disconnected the clip, but it also drained maybe 1/4 Cup of fuel total so give that a try next time.

That's pretty scary! I'll take mine to a shop and get it done.

If you cause a siphon effect gasoline will keep pouring out. I've gotten a chemical burn changing the fuel filter before.

Didn't realize how difficult it is for the SC. It's a breeze with the GS.

Which supra? My MK3 has the gas tank sitting down under the trunk not up high like the SC. I figured with the placement of the SC gas tank gravity pulls the fuel down so idling before hand with the pump disconnected will not solve it.

The gallon or 2 of gas, if you dont have a lift, youll be laying in it. Your clothes will soak it up.
