i have this mounted on the ceiling in my corolla for my daughter to watch movies... works good until u hit a ditch and the ipad rotates a bit. but maybe u guys can come up with something better... i know some ppl might say to just buy a flip down but when u have 48 disney movies saved on ur ipad a flip down is just a waist of money!

About a year ago, when I first bought an iPad, I wanted to do the same thing as you. I discovered that with one of those rubbery iPad cases, the iPad will actually sit in the little ridge directly above the center console - it stays fairly secure, too, as long as you aren't thrashing it all over the road or a track. It actually holds better when it is pressed up against the gauge cluster area. I don't do it myself, because I've got a Droid X with a windshield mount and Google Music (which is awesome, by the way) now, but here's a couple picks to give you an idea.

^The truck one looks a bit better. You really gotta have a factory style clean look to make it work imo.

No doubt. Plus I had a cop buddy of mine tell me that police aren't too fond of 10" screens high up on the dash like that. That's why I switched to the Droid and a windshield mount. Much cleaner, basically the same functionality, but damn - it was kinda fun having an iPad for GPS and everything else there for a while.

If you really wanna see how it should be done right, check out these guys:
