did any one change a transmission for a sc400? if so how much? or how much to rebuild...my car does not want to move, feels like gears or torque converter not engaging,,car moves but does not really want to, the engine just revs really high with little movement.....help

 

i just went to check the tranny fluids and its ok..i thought it might be low..guess not...when i start the car it will go in to gear but after a minute it doesnt seem to drive,, more like in neutral,car does not move and it rolls back and forth, ..not good...the car seems like its stuck in neutral, but when i restart the car it will let me put it in gaer and move a few more feet...arhhhhHHh...but no more then that,, the car just revvvvvs......helppppppp

 

Sounds like the box has gone, needs pulling and a "PRO" rebuild if you can get one, I ended up buying a s/hand box from a wreck after suffering 3or4 crappy rebuilds.

 

box?.....how much did it cost?......what does that part do?. is it clutchbelt....may be shift linkage?

I doubt it is your linkage, does it lock-up in "P" and freewheel in "N"?

 

yes it does lock up in p..and rolls in all the other gears ,,the car moves if i shut it off and restart it ,,but it moves very little and starts to loose grip on torgue converter....

 

did you check the fluid level with the engine running?

 

yepz, checked fluids....like i said if i start it up it will go in to drive or reverse and move a few feet before the tranny starts to slip ( revs high with very little forward movement) probably it is the torque converter...has any one else had problems?

 

You will have to take it to a shop, it is most probably the clutch bands have gone, most shops will insist on fitting a new TC at the same time unless they can flush the TC to remove any contamination.

What colour is the tranny fluid, does it smell burnt?

 

how much to replace clutch bands???? the last time this happened, it was because i was low on fluids.....

 

If there's a whining sound coming from where the shift **** is....is that something related to transmission fluid?

 

no whining sound..but it can drive when u first start it but, quickly begins to slip..thimk it might be something in the tranny fuids that cause it to clog when i drive, but unclogs by dropping bsck to bottom sfter shutting off car..
