Lube your steering U-joint!
I have been chasing a slight clunk in my steering for months and turns out the u-joint under the hood on the drivers side needed some lube sprayed on it and it is now quiet as can be however I am not sure as to the health of the joint since it was dry for so long but it seems just fine now so I will take it abart in the future and inspect/lube it and see if there is any damage.

U joint from steering, where is this located exactly? I been having this obnoxious CLUNKing noise when driving over abnormal roads ever since I dropped the car on coilovers(almost 3years now).
I tried everything that our forum members suggested but still cant pinpoint the problem. I'll give this a shot once I find out where its located

It's located on the drivers side so just follow the steering rod down until you see a u-joint at the bottom where it meets up with the rack.
Mine was more of slight clunk that happened mainly when turning the wheel in park and sometimes while driving but not noticeable as much while driving.

Is that clanking sound different from when I shift from R to D or D to R? That's mine's symptoms... And I've been tryina find out what it is since I got my SC... They said it's the carrier bearing but still not sure...
Your issue is most likely a tranny mount, but you can always check your carrier bearing(support bearing same thing) just to be sure and to rule it out.
I've already changed the tranny mount btw, thinking that was wrong at first, but the clanking sound is still there especially when I haven't warmed up the engine...And it's very loud, you can hear it with the doors closed..

You should also check part# 37511 I believe they are called insulators. One of mine were cracked and the other completely shot and frayed apart with the chords showing. Somthing else to check is the rear control arm bushings. Hope this helps you out.
To the OP thanks for the tip on the steering u-joint, but I always thought the joint was a sealed unit. Wouldn't there be a zirk fitting if they needed to be lubed for maintenance? Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

I would think that it is sealed however it may be needle bearings as most u-joints are and of course if it went dry there is no seal anymore which would tell us why the lube worked and I used Royal purple max-chain lube.
Back on topic.
My Steering u joint is completely gone. I have to find one from a junk yard somewhere.
This is going to be a part of a lot of complaints as these cars get older. I have a feeling I'm not the only one.
