The only reason I have any hesitance is the fact that it has 138k and I don't know if it has been done before. If it hasn't and I change the fluid it could kill the tranny.

your car....your call.....but my money is changing the fluid...ESPECIALLY if it smells burnt and or looks old/bad. Just purchase a quart of new to compare it's looks and smell. The logic of leaving it untouched I guess means that you will never change it for the life of ownership?........how long/miles is that?......You can always siphon out a bit of trannie fluid with the use of a very small rubber hose (any good hardware store sells clear small rubber tubing) running it down thur the trannie dipstick hole. Suck out a cup or two and get a good look and smell of the stuff, just remember to replace with the same amount you removed.

I'm changing my tranny mount and expecting a few problems to go away, based on the reviews/experiences people have had on CL after changing their mount. Fixes possibly include vibratons, slippage, loss of torque, etc. And for only $120 from the dealership it's not gonna kill ur wallet to give it a shot..

what your not understanding is that the detergents in the new transmission fluid can clean the parts of your tranny removing all of the gunk and grime that could be keeping your tranny in good working condition. it happens all the time people dont flush there tranny untill it starts slipping and as soon as they do the tranny goes.

i understand your train of thought but its not engine oil. thanks for your imput though.
