Just keep on running conventional oil. Your engine will live on for ages without synthetic oil, please you'll get to keep more money in your pocket

if you don't mind keeping it synthetic i say go ahead. just know that u cant turn back, and it is fairly more expensive than regular oil. but if money isnt a problem you should only buy the best of everything for your car as long as you can appreciate its effectiveness for its pricetag. if your not boosting your engine or anything major.. u might as well keep it regular oil and sell the royal purple for 100% profit lol

I would say try it out, but isn't it bad to switch back and forth between oil types? Synthetic oil is also a lot more expensive too.

once you go synthetic, you cant turn back. Honestly, if a car hasnt had synthetic oil from the beginning, its really not gonna make a difference now if slightly any

i have asked this question many times as well.

if you do regular oil changes on your car the normal stuff will do fine.

if money isnt an issue like someone said--than y not--go synthetic

personally im sticking to ther regular.

Lots of misinformation in this thread...

Yes you can run it no problem

It will not hurt anything at all

You can switch back and fourth

I run it in an engine with 165k and know people who run it in 300k mile engines.

It will make leaks worse so if you have small leaks they will get worse so if the engine is sealed up good there is no problem running it.

There are lots of positive sides to running a good synthetic.

Such as? I've always heard that switching back and forth is not a good idea.

My understanding is regular oil is perfectly fine as long as you change your oil regularly, if you change your oil every 3000 miles you'll be fine, if you use synthetic oil and change it every 3000 miles anyways, you're throwing your money away, synthetic oil last longer which is part of the reason why it's more expensive.

Synthetic oil is better for start-up, once the car is started it doesnt really do that much more than regular oil.

If you have it in hand already, use it. If you have at least been keeping up with the general maintenance on you car, you should have no problems running synthetic in it.

A tremendous explanation of motor oil (viscosity, thinning, additives, mineral vs synthetic, etc.). Chapter 3 really hits synthetics. Read that and the recommendations.
