Well it hasn't been purchased yet but myself and two friends put a deposit down for it. For a month or so we have been talking about getting a project car to build for racing at NASA events. I'm a 400 guy myself, but I couldn't deny the viability of doing a GTE swap or NA/T in a 300. After discussing our options, we decided getting an SC400 and modifying that was the way to go. Our plans include the 4.7 liter Frankenstein, 5 speed conversion and LSD. We are probably going to go with a Gixxer_Drew style suspension. Wheels obviously.

This car was brought into a repair shop and the motor was replaced. The new motor was low miles and came out of a well maintained 400 that had a rollover. The owner never paid for the work and the mechanic is in the process of obtaining the title from a mechanic's lien. When he obtains the title he will sell us the car for $1000.

It has been parked outside with the sunroof cracked and is in terrible condition. It was driven as recently as December but now it will not start. We have determined it is a fuel issue so we are replacing the fuel pump and filter on Wednesday.

Tell me what you think! Are we stupid for choosing a 400? Is it too thrashed? Bring it on

If it is difficult to pool $1000 among 3 people then you are probably in for a LONG stretched out build process... It sounds fun though. I think if you can iron out the kinks and are all dedicated to throwing money at it sooner rather than later- then go for it. Strip it down fully, comb through the wiring/engine/trans/diff, cut it up, weld it up, paint it, drop it, brake it, 18" it, kit it, and track beast it!

We put down a deposit to hold the car until the seller gets title to the car as stated above. Not because we cannot afford the full 1k. Indeed if we were that strapped we would not be attempting a venture such as this. Granted we are not mega ballers, and we foresee this project taking over a year, but also intend on tracking the car before that.

We will be doing the suspension first as well as weight reduction and will most likely be building a separate engine so we can still drive it while we are creating our frankenmotor.

Ultimately, we are doing this for fun and to learn! Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Right?

The guy who had this car did not choose tasteful mods. There is still a hacked up sound system in the trunk consisting of no name brands, that is except for the 10 disc cd changer, made by....Daewoo?

No SC should ever be treated the way this one has. It makes me proud to know we will be transforming this thing from a parts car to a track car!
