Default Has anyone tried Ebay Piston Rings?

Im in the process of re-building my block and wanted to know has any of you guys used the piston rings on Ebay and whats your experience? Im on a budget and dont $230 for rings. The link has a set for $51 and says that they are NPR which DM has them for twice as much and I wanted to know if they were the same brand.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-10...Q5fAccessories

I brought it to a machine shop yesterday to get it inspected. They told me that Im gonna need new rings and they suggested that I have it rehoned, it was gonna costs me $550 for the rebuild.

This is my first time rebuilding a block and wanted to get any suggestions, tips I need to know before doing this. The machine shop showed me their method of honing, it was one of those honing tools you attatched to a drill. I was thinking, why not buy one and do it myself. Have any of you guys done this before? Or, should I leave it to the machine shop to deal with?

Those are made by Nippon in Japan.

Not a brand I've ever heard of, but I'm new to foreign cars. eBay doesn't make parts, you can get high quality parts just as well as the low grade crap.

not bashing on ebay the site but just the product itself.

quality parts usually arent cheap and cheap stuff usually isnt good quality thats all im saying

and say if those cheap 52$ rings fail... its gonna cost you alot more money to have it fixed.. AGAIN then it would if you were to have bought something in the 200 range or however much oem or trusted brand to begin with

I didn't think you were. It's just how a lot of people begin their post.

Driftmotion sell those rings also, for twice the price. And I agree with using quality parts for something as critical as internal engine parts.

Edit: I did however find out with some research, NPR are Toyota OEM rings.

I have no idea if those are good or bad.

I have a set of NPR rings sitting here waiting to go in. I researched as well seems like a good choice in my book. Save the money and spend it on other parts. The headgasket is also just as good I got a Erastic 1.3 Stock TT

So, you also got a set of these piston rings from erastic on Ebay? Is the package the same as the link above?

Heres what Driftmotion has on their site, it looks to be the same package

Usually anything that comes out of Japan are pretty good. I am pretty sure Nippon is an oem supplier very much like Aisin or Denso for other stuff

I had low oil pressure and it was knocking so I had to pull it out

The old block had a scored cylinder so I had to source another. Found a GE block but it needs a rebuild.

I had to drop the GE back in till the rebuild is complete cause the truck is running poorly
