OK,the 4runner has tiny valves I guess,or maybe it's the cam timing, who knows, but it doesn;t have any top end, either now that you mention it;should probably drive it more often and get used to it before the baby arrives.

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone explain to me what is the difference between lock-up and non- lockup TC? I'm planning to get one for my 02 GS300 and I want to know which one is better for my car. At what stall speed should it be set at? How many time does the stall speed have to be reset during the life of the TC? Thank you!

I would assume so since you will be pushing the car harder. However, it is inevitable. I guess the best way to prevent any damage is to park the car indoors and never drive it.

You do not reset stall speed. The stall speed of the torque converter will only change when you modify the performance of the car. If you happen to turbo your car then your stall speed is supposed to increase.

The lockup portion of the converter simply refers to some clutches that "lock". In the GS series, they lock up progressively. The transmission can be partially locked, fully locked, or not locked at all. This gives varying torque transmission and slightly different efficiency. The goal at steady and highway speeds is to fully lock when cruising, eliminating slippage. This essentially provides a direct connection to the wheels. This is different than "Stall speed" which is just the amount of slippage before the converter starts applying torque to the transmission.

A non-lockup converter won't lock at all, and gives less efficiency overall, especially on the highway.
