Ill admit im not much of a mechanic, so I need some help. I want to purchase the magnaflow exhaust (14829), but I'm hesitant to do so, becuase I'm not sure if it'll pass smog. Will upgrading only the exhaust cause any issues during a smog check? How about doing a setup like lex400sc; will it pass the smog check?

i don't see why not, i pass smog just fine with my greddy. all my friend' with just mufflers only pass just fine also...

Anything you do past the catalytic convertor will pass smog, including NO mufflers . I would recommend you have the whole piping system past the cat redone with 2.5-inch straight pipes unless you're going for a quieter ride. Let's your car b-r-e-a-t-h-e better and sounds more aggressive once the car's warmed up.
