Default New member here with a question for OGs

I have a 2001 es300 with 105k miles. This car is in very good condition seeing as how my father is a lexus mechanic. When we first got the car at 99k the transmission was out but we replaced it and I have had absolutely no problems since then.

The reason I am posting in the sc forums is that I am wanting to come to the dark side. I found a 96 sc300 with 140k miles at a used car dealership and this guy wants 5k for it. His car is in very good condition as far as body and interior goes (if my father and I go look at it we will be able to see if the car runs well).

He said the best he could do was an even trade; whipping out all taxes and what not. I happen to think that my 2001 es300 is worth a little more than just a fair swap.

What is everyones opinion on this? Should I try and convince him for a trade plus cash?

They want to do an even trade because it will be much easier for them to sell a 4dr ride than a coupe. If anything sell yours and buy the sc for less.
Get the sc, the es is dime a dozen
Check kbb to compare the pricing of both cars and do the math

Thanks.
I've done the KBB and I have seen that my car is worth 6k for trade in or 7.7k to a third party. That sc in good condition is only worth around 4.3k sellers.
KBB also states that dealers would put a price tag of about 9.5k on my car as the starting negotiating price.
I really like this car...but I want to figure out how to make him give me money for the trade lol.

I would personally keep the ES and just buy the SC with no trades. Those third generation ES' like yours are pretty cool cars and the 01's go for a lot more than most SC's go fo around here. $5,000 is a little high for a car with 140,000 miles in my opinion. Where at in Texas are you?

Yeah, I really like my '01. My first car was a 92' sc300 and I totalled it I have wanted another sc300 to fix up ever since. The only problem with getting both is that I am in college which tremendously limits my budget. It is either one or the other for me.

I live in Garland currently. You?
