So I am having this difficulty where I dont know where this oil is coming from! First time I did a tune up since owning the car for a little over a year, there was massive amounts of oil in my spark plugs which caused a missfire.

6 months after the tune up and smog is due since i got hit with a random check... SAME PROBLEM!

Tune up consisted of:
NGK I-platinum spark plugs
NGK Wires
Valve gasket
Throttle body gasket
Distributor rotor and cap

-Old plugs from 1st tune up seem fine still just dirty from the oil

I was wondering if any one had the same issue and was wondering where could this oil be coming from

Did you torque the valve covers down in the correct sequence and correct specs? Also the distributor O rings go out very often...check that out.

 

Oil on the plug tips, or in the gullys? I know it sounds dumb but a lot of people when doing oil changes/ adding oil spill some and it flows under plastic cover to the gullys.

 

Oil in the gullys...yea torqued the valve cover correctly...ill check distributor o ring next...ill keep u guys posted

 

Well, I really don't see how it's possible for the distributor o-ring to cause this.
The oil would have to climb uphill and backwards. If it were wind sprayed, you'd definitely see it all over the place.

 

I kept on getting oil in the valley, even with new gaskets. Until one day where I looked at the design and found out that there are ***** on the inside of valve covers. I ground a little bit of the ***** and used some gasket maker in addition to the gasket, then torqued the bolts well. Leaking never came back and my valley looks clean as a whistle.

Yea its probably the same problem...going to try that

did grounding the ***** fix your problem as well. I am pulling plugs and there is not a ton of oil in there, but its there. And when I pulled the plugs the threads are soaked with what I thought was gas but I am more inclined to think its oil.

 

its most definitely oil...i order a complete gasket kit this time which included valve cover grommets instead of just the valve covers and it did the job...order the complete kit not just the valve covers...good luck

 

Go buy a small jug of fluorescent dye from Autozone and a UV light then you can pinpoint the exact location of the leak.

 

is one of your valve covers cracked?. just cuz its magnesium doesn't mean they wont crack

 

Yep . Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way though.
