hey guys ive been beating my head against a wall about the diff under the back of this thing.

im looking online reading about "torsion" type a type b supra non turbo, turbo, type 1 type 2

god damn,

heres the deal its a SC300 that some one swapped a 5 speed in. when i first bought it, and got it running. i was messing around in a parking lot at my work and went around a bend and dumped the clutch and spun both tires and left 2, 4' long angled burnout marks

did the guy before me swap the rear end too? My sc400 wont put down 2 stripes Ever.

but then i put the rear of the car in the air and spun the drive shaft, wheels spin opposite directions??????

So question is does this car have a 4.27 auto sc300 diff
or a supra diff
or something else

I have been wondering the same thing about my auto 300. The previous owner did ZERO modifications to the car, yet when it was na-t, both tires would spin easily, if not better than my old s13 with a KAAZ diff...They are supposed to be open diffs, but the stock rear seems to lock pretty nicely.

Also been wondering how the car will act with the LSX swap and a 4.27 rear-diff.

The toyota LSDs are a torsen style diff where they lock when torque is applied. My 6 speed LSD diff works the same way- up in the air with no torque applies the tires will spin opposite directions. Lay down the hammer though and both tires are locked and loaded.

My 400 will leave two stripes during straight line acceleration when it ***** a little sideways in 1st gear sometimes. I think it may spin both tires because: tire A begins to spin and immediately pulls the rear end sideways (due to road imperfections) enough to induce a loss of traction in tire B which then begins to spin. If you punch it around a turn it should leave two marks for sure if it gets sideways, though.

I shat you not. I just watched extreme 4x4 episode today as Ian discussed 3rd and 4th gen chevy motors. The 6.0l motor is the LQ4. The truck variants are the same as the LSx car line but have iron blocks vs aluminum blocks. This is why the intakes, oil pans and trannys all bolt up. I got the wood today when I heard this. I am happy to see this come together!

I can't imagine boost on the iron blocks! WIN!

Bumping this thread to find out how you mounted the 4l80e. Did you use an adaptor plate with the t56 crossmember or did Dan supply you with a 4l80e crossmember?

Also, did you use the 4 bolt yoke or a slip yoke?

I have my motor and trans ready to drop in but i'm not sure what to do about the crossmember situation.

Dan sent me a rear plate for a 4l60e

the 4l80e is about 8 inches longer,
i drilled 4 holes in the frame and used 1/2 inch all thread with 3/4 inch nuts

it has the stock 4l80e slip yoke on the front and the stock sc300 rear with the isolator

jack up the rear and put it in neutral. Spin the wheel forward and see if the other axle is going in the same direction. if it is then u prolly have an LSD. If it does the opposite then its an open diff.
