I get a clicking sound from under the center console when engaging brakes. This happens when the car is in gear as well as when going from park to drive. The brake lights work.
If I hold the Shift Lock button down no clicking.
In order to enter an address into the Pioneer Navigation I have to hold the shift lock button down.
It has been like this for several months after some local car stereo monkeys could not fix my Viper alarm. I lost faith in car stereo installers. I do not want them touching anything if possible.
I don't know if the Viper issue is related. The alarm started going off even if it was not armed.
I have a 98+ gated shifter and a 1JZ if it matters
I already posted this in Security & Electronics. Not much action there.

sounds like your radio has a brake switch that knows when your dirving and is preventing you frmo entering info to it because it thinks your in motion...im sure there is a way to bypass it. what model is the stereo?? and what model viper do u have. i have viper5901 i installed myself and didnt have any issues...

At one point everything was working including the Viper.
I do not believe there was any clicking.
There is a both a hardware way and a software way to bypass the Navigation.
I mostly was concerned about the "brake clicking" while in "D"

Thanks for the explanation.
For a temporary fix I am going to wedge something into the shift-lock to keep it pressed down.
Any potential problems with doing this?
