Occasional starter kickback
Sometimes when I start my car, it will crank over a couple revolutions and then act like it wants to kick back for a second before it starts. It almost acts like a SBC with too much advance... Anybody have any ideas on this? Is it possible to set base timing on these cars? I didn't figure it was something you could really adjust...
he has a gte, there is no distributor but I would recommend checking your base timing at the least. It used to happen on mine when my cranking advance was set to high. I don't think you can change that though.
Ok, I found the timing process in the FSM, so I will look into that. It only does it every now and then, so I also plan to test my crank and cam sensors. Maybe one is going flakey and confusing it?
So I have been lazy and not really addressed this, but it seems to be happening more often lately. Also, I noticed a new behavior... Sometimes the car cranks longer than I would think necessary before firing up. This seems to happen more when its up to operating temp on hot starts. I really am starting to suspect either a cam or crank sensor now... When I get back from the Holiday break, I will test them all.
