A friend gave me a cluster from an unknown year car. When I installed it I noticed that the Tach is reading too high, and the Speedo doesn't go much higher than 20mph even on the freeway...

1. Does it need calibrated or reset somehow?
2. If I have to replace it what years can I use ?

The speedo motor is probably junk. He might have given you a sc400 cluster which is different from the sc300.

I can use a sc 300 from any year, but not an sc400 because it wont give me accurate readings ?

Yes sir make sure you get a sc300. I was able to put a 99 sc300 cluster into my 95 with some wiring of course. I think you would have to replace both the tach motor and speedo motor to get it working correctly.

 

Oh Snap, I could have to rewire ? I hope not, I dont have a schematic of any kind... How were you able to do it ?

 

If your going to put a 99 cluster into your pre 97 youll need to repin or splice wires from the 99 plugs into your car.
