The SC400 I bought for my daughter had the identical fix. It did not last. Best of luck with yours.
I am the OP and just wanted to update this thread to say that it has been over a year now and the door handle works perfectly. This DIY fork fix is working very well...
Kudos for the follow up report. Just pulled my drivers side door apart to replace the clip, (which Broadway Toyota had both the drivers and passenger clips in stock for $2.36 each) But it wasn't broken, however the lower rod end is broken off. So thanks for the write up and the follow up. I will proceed with confidence of a low cost long lasting repair. I think I will put some 3-M 5200 on the plastic clip for peace of mind.
i think thats pretty creative to use the sheet metal...
has anyone noticed window track and door lock problems possibly related to lack of lubrication?
possibly preventativly spraying some silicone on parts could avoid issues...
my 92 still hasnt displayed any of the typical problems, knock on wood....
