I just got done swapping a good used auto in my 93 sc400. Tough job on jackstands for sure!

My old trans was toast, tons of metal in the pan, to the point where most of the fluid was a blackish grey color. I had no forward motion at all, trashed.

After installing the new transmission (I left the torque converter, it was reasonably new), I put about 5.5 quarts in to bring it up to normal operating levels.

I read that the maximum capacity of the sc400 system is a little under 9 quarts (i'm assuming the cooling setup and TC holds a decent amount?), do I need to worry about the metal shavings in the existing fluid that is in the system injuring this functional transmission?

I was thinking I'd drive it for a bit and drop the pan again and add another 4-5 quarts to rid the system of the rest of this old fluid.

Does that sound like a good plan?

FYI: Drain and refill is only 2 quarts... the remaining 6.7 quarts are in the torque converter.... There is a DIY on lexls.com. You can use that as a guide to completely flush the TC.
