Default Ebay motor experience

Guys,

First of all, I did search the site and couldn't find a straight answer (or I sucks at searching!) Anyway, I am in the process of acquiring a 1jz + 5 speed for my swap, and ebay is the first place came to my mind. There are few companies (JDM Engine zone, Japan power, JDM planet...etc) selling on ebay and I am hoping to find out what people's experience on their purchase.
Also, if anybody have recommendation on a particular company, I would love to hear.

Thanks

i'd look around for a local place that can source one for you and have them do compression/leak down tests. if not i'd call around and find a a reputable company i can deal with over the phone. although there are all these things protecting the buyer im not too big of a fan of stuff from ebay especially something like an engine. might end up being a huge hassle and i rather avoid the headache

i'm def not a fan of buying ebay motors. most of the companies use 2-3 difference names to balence out bad and negitive comments. also most of the motors u buy are junk thats left over from the last of the container shipments thats why thier so cheap. there is a good shortage of good jz motors as of a few months ago. im not saying all are junk but is a 50/50 chance. i got my motor from kaream at jspec auto it came in great condition. had the tune up already done on it just missing a timing belt. had the igniter, COMPLETE uncut harness, ecu's maf sensors nothing was broken at all just a bent shifter on the tranny but it shift smooths so far.

i would get a motor from some 1 you have talk to and built a repore with cause if you buy 1 of those ebay motors i read stroies where people got analed by the company thats why i made sure i called around and talk to company.

best thing is talk to memebers on here and where they got thier motor from

i could reccomend to u
g-speed
panda garage
jhot
jspec auto

or have you checked craigslook or surpaforums , from time totime thiers a motor on here for sale i would also try surpamania.com

If you don't mind the drive, there's plenty of shops down in Jersey that will get you a good engine and do the install for you.

I have a jhot motor, and it SEEMS ok so far. Have just done a couple startup heat cycles so far, so no boosted pulls or anything yet.

PS, g-speed closed shop months back from what I recall.

i wish i would've redone my swap from a reputable dealer, the one i got from JDM power Inc. came with a missing MAP sensor plug, bad alt, bad ps pump, bad rear turbo, a dent in the oil pan...you get the picture.

Get it from a reputable place like JHOT. I should've waited for the next JHOT shipment but i got impatient and paid more than i should've in the end.

Ebay motors are pretty bad, I've heard nothing but good things about Jhot, I however would try and find one locally so you can do a leakdown and compression test.

Ive used both jdm enigine depot and jdm engine crops and the engines were just fine other than a couple broken clips on one wire harness.

I wouldn't trust eBay at all...most of the time you see a "Soarer 1JZ", you think it'll be a direct swap, just extend the harness right? But its usually a supra/chaser 1JZ. So no you have more worries about wiring and god knows whats wrong with it

Go on supraforums and look for a MKIII supra 1JZ thats local to you and swap the supra harness for a soarer one (and you have to extend the soarer harness). I dont think theres much stuff for the soarer electronics though (EMS, Standalone, Piggyback ECU, etc.)

As for the r154, Look for one out of a chaser/soarer(<--harder to find). Look on here, Supraforums, or My.IS.

I did some research and found out that the r154 (with extended shifter) gets swapped into IS300's with automatics. So searching on My.IS I found a soarer r154 that came out of an IS300 for a good price and it looked alot cleaner than most r154's ive seen.

EDIT:: Also have heard nothing but good things about JHot....Stay away from Osaka tho, if you ask for a Soarer Motor they'll just send you an MK3 1JZ anyways
