so are the originals welded on?

 

I don't more if the original are welded but they took a sawzall (sp) and cut it off . The reason why I prefer it welded is because in many cases like mine aftermarket kits are not designed perfectly and in doing so the cutout and the exhaust tip do not always match. Welding it lets the adjust it then weld to match the cutouts

 

Mine on my 1998 were not welded on. They originally were very sunk in, so i checked them, and decided to bring them out. I used a mallet and bumped it out, but i hit it hard and it just fell off. It slips right back on, but i decided to put on larger, more round-looking tips. Still, for $20, and the bolt on adjustability, it works for me.

yep. i just went out and tapped my stock ones off, they have an inner and outer piece in one, with four indentions that hold it to the muffler pipe.
