I searched found a few threads but not answer my curiosity so I thought I post a new one instead of hijacking someone else thread that wasn't related to what I needed to know.

I'm trying to fix my grandma's 92 SC300. Upstream O2 sensors are bad. I went to O'Reilly and they sold me a "universal type" exactly like this one by Bosch.


The one on the car is OE type exactly like the picture below.



I didn't know about this until after the fact when I was about to remove the sensors to replace them. Instead, I went back to the store to return the O2 sensors because I thought they wouldn't work for it looks like it wasn't a screw in type. The store clerks don't know themselves so I'm turning in here for some advice.

I was just wondering if the screw in type will still work. I wasn't sure if underneath the OE type that I could screw in the Universal type sensor. Yeah, I should have removed one of them to find out instead of returning the sensors right away. Anyway, I was thinking it wasn't going to work thats why I returned them. They say 5-7 business days to order the OE type.

The stock o2 bungs are not threaded IIRC, but the Bosch universal o2 sensors work just fine. I have been using them since I went na-t and no issues.

 

Thanks turbo. I was going to PM u instead of making the post since on the few threads I found, you made some pretty good comments.

I'm sure the Bosch will work just fine except, I'd probably have to take the exhaust manifold to the shop and have them weld a threaded piece there to be able to screw it in. I suppose we'll just get the OE type.

 

No problem, and pm anytime. I would get a quote from a shop to have the threaded bung welded on, it may be cheaper than getting the oem flange type sensors, cause I know they arent cheap.

 

Yep... $20 for the bosch universal and like $80 each for the oe flange type ... Can I buy that bung piece somewhere? What is it called exactly?

 

You can find them on ebay, but most muffler shops that are worth .02 will have them. Also, most auto supply stores should carry them, I know autozone does. Just check to see if the Bosch sensor has the thread pitch on it, thats all you will need to find the right bung. They range anywhere from $10-20 each, but still cheaper than the oem sensors. And saves you money later on when/if they need to be changed again.

sometimes you can find a universal with the flange, but yeah you could always get the bung welded on like turbodremz said.

 

What I did before was I found a bolt tha will match to the univeral O2 sensor thread and had that welded.

 

Need help ASAP.... We bought a couple of set of OEM O2 sensor from a member here. Yes they are "used" sensors.... I replaced the sensors off my grandma's car and the CEL is still "ON". Would it turn "OFF" right away or will the car need to be driven a few miles then it will come off after if the O2 sensors are good?

Please reply ASAP..... I also check the codes and its Code 21, 27 & 28

I suppose no one knows? Anyhow, decided to leave it as is and the car has been driven for 20+ miles. The CEL is still on. I guess the O2 sensors were bad afterall.

Just thought I let you guys know for everyone else who are wondering.
