Default any tips for building my NA-T?

whats up guys ive had my 92 sc for about three months now and i think its a great car with lots of potential. im only looking to make about 350 to 400 hp to the wheels. right now ive got just a 2JZGE and debating on boosing it or doing a complete gte swap with an aristo motor then later converting it to single turbo for some big hp .........if i do the na-t setup keeping the same motor how should i lower the compression? for the na-t setup ill be runnin a T6 turbo, front mount intercooler, oil cooler, dual electric fans, hks BOV and for lowering the compression i was thinkin about just running a fat metal head gasket. how would this work. any ideas?

rear wheel drive is the only way to go! stay sideways ppl!

Search, search, search!!

How much do you want to spend? How mechanically inclined are you? Do you know the difference between the GE and GTE? Are you able to do simple math? Do you have lots a patience? What do you plan to control fuel/timing with for na-t? Would you do the GTE swap yourself? Would you do the harness yourself? What kind of mileage is on your GE now? Planning a rebuild?

Threads like these bring lots of questions your way, mainly about simple competence for not searching, but the bottom line is, you need to search and figure which route would be best for you, and what your goal for the car is, and not just HP numbers. If you want to go na-t, can your engine handle it?

A T-6 framed turbo is going to require a bit of massaging to spool up, and IMO is major over kill unless your planning on a 800+hp build. Compression lowering is simple, just need to figure what kind of comp. ratio you want. Would you use a 1.3mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm or 2.5mm HG? How much boost are you planning, and is your W58 going to explode before you hit your goal, or do you need to also factor in an R154/V160 into your plans..

There is a TON of information here on the forums about na-t and GTE swaps, and can all be found by simply searching, reading, more reading, PM some na-t owners and ask some questions (pm me if needed). Also use all your resources for info, search here, register on clubna-t.com and do the same there.

PM me if you have any specifics, and I will either answer it outright, or point you in the right direction. G/L

Yes the VVT-i internals are weaker than the early model non-VVTI. As for a turbo, any small/medium framed T4 will be more than enough. Turbonetics, Garrett, Holset (HX35 or 55), but keep the a/r to a medium to avoid mass amounts of lag. Generally T6 turbo's have a higher a/r, but a .60-80 a/r on the hot side is ideal and wont have much lag on them. My GT4088 has a .86a/r hotside and it lags a whole lot more than my old Turbonetics 60-1 that was .68 a/r.

Search around, check different na-t setups/specs, and see what would be best for you.

i mean your guna have to do normal things for any NA-T
what im doing is upgrade to TT head gasket (might get a BoostLogic 2.5mm but theyre super expensive...i havnt decided yet), ARP Head Studs, JDM GTE ECU Conversion, RC550cc injectors, Walbro 255lph-HP pump, Apexi SAFC2, bunch of other stuff like that
yeah the gte conversion is easier i suppose and if you do it right less expensive but i like my cars to have originality you know
look around and see how many gte swaped sc's there are theyre all bassically the same (give or take) but i bet you wont find 2 of the exact same na-t setups
i guess its just all in wat you like

labor on a na-t and gte is alot different wouldn't the na-t be alot easier and less time consuming?? changing out the whole engine and alot of wiring work seems like more work then a bolt on kit, HG and a simple fuel management unit. IDK im just asking since im on the same boat

yes and no you gota think your putting a turbo on something thats not used to it so you gota know what your doing when you mess with fuel and air and all that kinda crap. i'm not really that good @ it yet but thats y i have friends (Curt & Rich your the best )
a swap is just a swap pull old one out put new one in, ofcourse theres alot of little things but hey if you know people it shouldnt be too hard
and if your not connected then the answers are out there you just gotta look
a tip for those who are planning the gte swap: get The Ultimate Lexus Manual
its written by this guy that supposedly did the 1st gte swap in an sc back in like 2000
its a great reference ive been reading it for the past like month.
im going NA-T for now until i either blow it up lol, or i got the money to throw around

just a quick question since we are all talking about na-t and what not...
Do you guys think the 2jz motor is strong enough at 150k to take a na-t with a T61 on 6psi? My Goal is 280-300rwhp
Also is there some kind of special tool needed to take the head off of the 2jz so i can put in a new headgasket? B/c my friend is having a lot of trouble taking off his head but then again he is retarded he is retarded tho lol
