I was thinking of a design that I could put an LCD panel inside of my dash and using a mirror, project it onto the windshield.

I'm going to be running a car PC and I could write a small program that would use my GPS location to determine speed, I could also display car info pulled to the PC by data logging.

Has anyone experimented or thought about something like this?
I have a Droid and there is an app called uHud that actually worked surprisingly well. I can set the phone on the dash of my car and clearly see the speed and or map, displayed on the windshield in front of me.

i got an app for that on my iphone, also tells N S E W direction, warns of nearby speed cameras, and beeps when speeding.

i wouldn't bother building the lcd setup from scratch, if you already have a carputer then all you need is a standalone screen with a vga/rca or other input compatible with your carputer. the rest is software to display a digital gauge and you may need to flip the image (tough but easier than programming an lcd controller from scratch).

 

Some S13 240sx coupes came with HUD from the factory. It looks pretty cool.

The app I use is aSmartHUD. There's a few different versions of it. I don't even use it anymore haha

 

Or you can get one on ebay... This one even has a pic of the convertible SC in the ad.
