I need to fill both the fan fluid (never heard of such a thing before) and power steering fluid on my 1992 SC400. Manual calls for DEXTRON II - I have not had an older car in several years so I took a trip to AutoZone and wondered what ever happened to all the AT brands and options There use to be so many choices now there are none... At least good old motor oil still comes with a few choices. SO I GUESS IF YOU OWNED STOCK IN A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID MANUFACTURING PLANT YOU WOULD BE BROKE TODAY.
Question for you experienced DIY types: I purchased Valvoline DEX/MERC "For Vehicles requiring DEXTRON-III/MERCON" RECOMMENDED FOR MOST GM< FORD< & SELECT IMPORTS (back says good in Acura, Infiniti, and Honda (exceeds performance standards all previous DEXTRON))
** Is this alright to use across the fluids to include AT calling for DEXTRON II? What does everyone use???
Basically, being that the information in the manual is outdated "what" should I use for power steering, fan fluid, and finally my AT transmission? Btw, vehicle has 180K miles and as stated above is a 1992 SC400.

Thanks!
Just go in to autozone again, ask one of the clerks to show you all of the choices and read the back of them and find the one that suits the application, I found the fluid I needed at autozone so I know they have it.
Okay, went to the link will use Type T-IV and will order from Amazon for my automatic transmission - but again, what about power steering and fan fluids that call for DEXTRON II per the cap and owner's manual?
Btw, I asked the gal at the counter at AutoZone and she is the one that talked me into buying the Valvoline DEX/MERC (actually she recommended the AutoZone brand of the same...) /SIZE]
with ATF fluids ratings, you can go up, but not down. So by using a Dexron 3/4, your only putting a better fluid in, nothing else. Same with the ATF+3 or +4. Going up in the "number rating" will not harm anything. I have been putting Dexron 3 in my PS/Trans since I got my SC and it works great.
