Remove the snorkel, too.

Don't waste your money on the TRD filter, about $70. Unless you have a turbo or headers with free flow exhaust, the BFI with the stock filter flows enough air for the stock engine, especially if you gut the beehive screen and bracket from the MAF. Save the money from the TRD filter and buy the complete kit, BFI & BFH, which includes all the plastic pieces to isolate the intake from engine heated air, and the smooth silicon intake tube. You also get the bolts to lower the shelf behind the bumper which forces airflow to the intake.

I did and it made a BIG difference. Fuel use increased from 18 to 20 MPG. The sound when you get on it is very pleasing and acceleration is improved. So far the best low cost performance improvement for the UZ. Some owners have switched to regular gas with no noticeable performance, but I can't bring myself to put regular in this beautiful engine.
