I've been doing some research on suspension options for the SC, and for the most part, Aftermarket adjustable suspension is generally very expensive for the Lexus SCX00 (at least $1000+). I may have found a great cheap alternative for those of us just looking to adjust the ride height...

Ground Control Coilovers...(These are actually for the Mk4 Supra, but they should fit the Lexus SCX00 just fine) It's simply nothing more than an adjustable sleeve that goes over the OEM struts (Exactly what I've been looking for)...They're only $600 too!



Here are some notes about them...

A)some shocks/struts require grinding/machining to fit coil-over hardware
B)removal of stock spring seat and welding required
C)removal of stock spring seat and welding optional for added tire clearance and range of adjustment
D)Trimming of stock spring seat allows added range of adjustment
E)removal of stock spring seat required
F)included new upper mounts and must be used with machined aftermarket struts specified
G)includes new upper mounts
H)must be used with specified shocks supplied by Ground Control (discounts do not apply to shocks)

Shocks recommended for use in conjunction with the coilovers...

(93-98) Toyota Supra MKIV F, works w/Billstien shocks
(93-98) Toyota Supra MKIV F, works w/GAB HP Shocks
(93-98) Toyota Supra MKIV F, works w/Koni

I've dealt with Ground Control adjustable coilovers before in the past on a Honda. (I've yet to experience these on a Toyota)

Would you personally recommend these coilovers or do you think it's just better to go with a "Full" coilover set up?

 

If you're gonna spend $600 on just adjustable springs, might as well spend a couple hundred more and get new shocks... and if you do that... might as well buy coilovers.

I mean eBay sells Ksports in the $850-$900 range, and I believe Tein Basics are at $799.

But if $600 meets your budget, and you dig it, go for it.

 

not worth it. its a set of adjustable perches and springs.

the same setup for a honda will run you under 100 bucks all day lol

save up and get the real deal. shocks needs to match up to the spring rates of the car. that also depends on the weight of the car and intended use for the car.

$600 is crazy expensive for a set of sleeve overs. Not worth it at all. Especially if you have to buy shocks too. That will cost at least another $200+. You might as well get coilovers.

 

You might as well buy those cheap coilover sleeves from ebay for $100 for mkIII supra!

if push comes to shove buy some coils from an importer i got my for under 500.00 and thier worth about 1300.00 the guys i bought them from didnt know what they had.

All these guys have pretty much answered your question. For $850 and up you can get a decent set of coilovers.

$600 is a rip off for that.

 

It's pretty expensive for what it is. Most other setups are only $400, but somehow the supra's price gets jacked up

Paired with Koni shocks, they're about $1200. I'd pay that much for quality parts. Eibach and Koni are companies who I have more faith in than Megan, Ksport, or even Tein.

 

Eveyone here is correct. Ideally my budget only allows for $5-600 suspension, but for $2-300 more I can get decent coils. Might as well save for an extra payday and do it right..

 

I agree, spend an extra $2-300 and do a coilover setup.

For $800 another option is the H&R Coilovers for the JZA80.

 

The GC setup can be tailored for those who are serious about tracking their cars. It can get quite expensive, but the results can be spectacular if done right.

However most people on this forum do not track their cars to the fullest and are just looking to lower their cars at an affordable price. Megans, Ksport, NEX, etc fit these criteria so they're more popular. You'll hardly find anyone running Supra GC just because the cost can rack up pretty quickly with a custom setup.

In the end, you just have to establish requirements and go from there. No sense in overspending on parts you don't need

 

Or...you could do the gixxer_drew setup for like $850 and have height adjustability along with great handling/comfort with brand new Bilstein HD Supra dampers and top quality Hypercoil springs.
