I've got one of my techs doing the swap. I was curious a.) what do you torque the throttle body to when doing this ? Also do you guys normally replace the gasket for the intake manifold?
I asked this a few months ago and never did get around to changing the plugs. I will wait until 1. i get a turbo kit or 2. I hit 120k miles. Anyways, the response was that you can reuse the gaskets. But I wouldn't, if I could find some nice copper ones somewhere (never did look). That is just me. As for the torque specs, I have to consult my manual and that is at home right now. I'll try and get them later.
Hey, class killer, Can you hook up a deal on a GE turbo kit?
They've got it appart and now they have the fun idea of removing the EGR So it looks like I'll be putting on some EGR plates and seeing how that goes. The TB has a ton of buildup in it, pretty nasty. I should notice a nice gain from it as the plugs and wires where original, throttle body had a ton of carb buildup in it, and we're removing the EGR system. Not bad at all.
As for the GE turbo kit, not right now too busy with other things. Maybe in the future though I have a GE longblock laying around that I can't decide if I'm going to build it or just go with the full 2JZ transplant, either way it's gonna be next year.
Also do you guys normally replace the gasket for the intake manifold?
Not unless you butcher it. That gasket doesn't see alot of pressure (or vacuum). Just make sure you don't miss any of the bolts, or you'll have a vacuum leak / squeal type of noise. Also, the bolts don't need to be SUPER tight. Just a good tug on a regular 1/4" drive ratchet.
Oh, just thumbing through my well worn manual...
The four bolts that hold the throttle body bracket--- 15lbs/ft
Most of the other like sized bolts on the throttlebody are also 15lbs/ft.
The four long throttlebody studs with the bi-hex? heads--- 15lbs/ft.---Thought it was a bi-hex, but I may have used a star bit.
Your the man scott, I was already on the road when you posted but I still appriciate it. Forgot that the Supra manuals we have also list NA stuff so I was safe there. The EGR mod went well also. My car now feels a lot smoother although I think the tranny needs a little flush and the air filter and cap and rotor could also use a change. Gotta take care of my baby
