What the heck is this?

If it's the original SC-class prototype, does anyone have any more pictures?

this is the 1/1 clay model, which was designed at Toyota design office in Cali.

That car is very Japanese looking....I wonder where the changes from that to the production shape came from. I'm glad they lowered the roofline (or raised the rest of the sheetmetal) for the production car...I'd have to say that's about the worst feature of that prototype.

The prototype front looks very "928", when did Porsche release the 928 body shape?

I do prefer the released version but even the prototype would have been quite something back in 1991.

Porsche was building 928s back in 1978, possibly a little earlier. To me it looks only vaguely like the 928....

Some of the prototypes & mock-ups for some of the best cars in the world have been total dog ****, I too would buy the mock-up, just look what we got out of it.

Ah, it's strange how the mind works. In a thread about show cars and prototypes, Bill chimes in from the UK and I think of a British car I just saw today. Ugly prototypes breed some strange offspring, but the Jensen Intercepter looks like it never got past the clay model stage and never should have - - there now, I've probably offended numerous fans of English cars - -

The thing I had liked about the SCs since 1990, and the thing that really set them apart at the time, was the separate and smaller high beam lamps and their placement b/c of the fat V8s.

It REALLY makes the car more distinct. It is also funny that most people don't even know they are high beams (that is unless you face them from the other direction, as they are the BRIGHTEST high beams I have ever had in a car or truck). I have asked several people, and have gotten the responses of "fog lamps", "directionals", "driving lights" (those annoying little helper lamps next to the headlights, like on the wedge-shaped 300z's), "flashers", and last but not least "decoration".

The Jensen Intercepter - Loved it, big American V8 lump, very advanced vehicle in it's day, one of the very first production cars with ABS (developed by Dunlop) & 4 wheel drive (Ferguson Four, as in combine harvester).

It could never compare with the Ferrari or Lambo of the day, they where the nuts back then.
