What could cause this?
The other day I was reattaching my inside rear view mirror which had been broken or something before I bought it. I hooked up the wires, and nothing..... I measured voltage, nothing... I then ohmed the wires and came up with a short (had continuity between pos and neg). After all this, these things are wrong with my car:
1) When starting, the climate control does not come on or remember where I had left it previously.
2) The two trip odometers reset before every startup
3) The clock no longer works. If I press one of the three buttons to set it, it lights up a little in something that's not even #'s
4) power door locks no longer work
5) Memory seats no longer work
I forgot to mention that on the same day, I removed the drivers side door panel. It's possible something came unattached and I could see that being the problem for #'s 4 and 5, but what about the rest of the stuff.
Is is all part of a wiring harness and I could have blown something somehow? Or maybe some obscure fuse?
Please help, I can't stand to have me car not be perfect.
I have a '93 SC300 with 91k BTW
Thanks all,
Tim

Check your ground wire from the battery to the body, a Lexus mechanic told me this is a common problem with SC cars. He said to take wire loose from body and clean wire end and ground point real good. He said this usually causes "funky" electrical problems. I have not tried this yet but I am going to real soon.
Hope this was helpful, Shane

A list of Gremlins currently experiencing:
When I purchased the vehicle:
*seat memory came with no function
*power mirrors came with no function
*have to manually open the trunk came with no automatic function
Since purchase, had an aftermarket alarm system installed.. however had the
system disconnected to see if that might have been the mystery behind the new problems. No such luck. Starter problem now. Either the solenoid or the starter, checking this Saturday. Already checked, the starter has power running to it. However with a little patience, does start still. Battery cables fine, and cleaned, as well as coated. All fuses are fine, with the exceptions of no power to these two sections when tested: ST HTR (my guess is seat heater) as well as S T <~(no clue what that means). We have in our possession a 1992 LEXUS SC300 OEM FACTORY WIRING DIAGRAM MANUAL,
with a little outside help, will start diagnosing this weekend.
Here's what went wrong a couple of months after purchase:
- power locks inoperable:have to manually lock or use the key
- heater memory no more: always resets to off position when starting the vehicle.
- odometer memory resets
- power tilt wheel no function: worked perfectly, now not at all.
- dome light no longer functions
- rear view mirror on dim no longer functions
- vanity mirror lights no longer functions
- cigarette lighter no longer functions/light works fine
- passenger seat will not go forward automatically
- however the power seats still slide on tracks no memory
- vehicle no longer senses when doors are open or ajar
Question Is their a common ecu involved here? perhaps something in the wiring?
It's a fuse, Tim. All that is controlled by a fuse. Try the kick panel first, then under the hood. Maybe you screwed through a wire, it's especially easy to do on the rear mirror since the wire runs up the middle of the screws.
AND WHERE EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN THE REARVIEW MIRROR IS RUNS UP IN THE MIDDLE OD THE SCREW
