Quick A/C Compressor Question...
93 SC400...
Replacing compressor with a used one I purchased from a fellow CL member and a new drier...do I need to add compressor oil, or should it be okay since it was already used?
Thanks.

Thanks. Changed it around today...after reinstalling the (hopefully) good one, I realized the "manifold" looking things where the a/c hoses connect were a different layout, so I had to take the compressor back off and swap them around...in 94 degree, humid effin weather. I was not happy about the added time sweating my *** off with grease and dirt all over me!
Anyways, it's installed, but by then the a/c shop around the corner was closed, so I will take it in the a.m. to have them flush/vacuum/add oil/R134a. Hopefully it doesn't leak...
If anyone reading this thread needs info on how to convert a system from R12 to R134a, and the amounts of oil/refrigerant required, I found this PDF while searching Google...might save someone some time.

Also, thanks to Killa-HZ for this post...it helped A LOT. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...tallation.html

My ac job was a nightmare. Went through two compressors and three dryers and a condensor was leaking. After two months of back and forth to the shop and finding leaks it finally works now. It's ice cold. Finally bought a brand new compressor offline. Nearly five hundred bucks, but it was well worth it. Good luck with it and keep us I informed.
Scott is a great guy and a asset to the CL forum.
Don't get a big head Scott. :-)

Thanks...I hope my process is smoother! Wow. I don't have $650-700 lying around at the moment...
On a positive note...I put dye in the system last week, which led me to the 'leaking from the front seal on the compressor' diagnosis...I didn't see green anywhere else today, so I hope this does the trick...

That's exactly where my two remanufactured ones were both leaking. If this doesn't get it then I would just buy a new one NOT a reman one.
Let's keep our fingers crossed and hopefully you will have some ice cold A/C!

If not, I might buy some of this for now and see if it works...I know stop leaks are not that good, but this one received some pretty good reviews from A/C techs, and it's one of the few that seals compressors...has anyone heard of/used this product?

Thx =) I do notice a little green around the edge of the manifold looking thing I swapped over - I wonder if that will seal fully after some amount of operation, or should I be concerned?
It's very little (so far) - will keep an eye on it...

Just a quick update...two days on from charging, and no leaks, even where the tiny bit of green was before is gone. I think it could stand a tad more R134a (they put in 1.75lbs, specs were 900g or ~1.984lbs) but I'm not sure if that small amount makes a difference? It's cold, but not COLD...ya know?! Big improvement, though!
